OHG Projects
Pottery - Bahla
The Bahla Project focus is the restoration of kilns and workshops, to increase investment in clay processing equipment, and the increase of product development activity to focus on traditional designs, including reintroduction of traditional glazes.
The once prevalent pottery industry of Northern Oman is now confined primarily to Bahla, where pottery production is limited to one traditional factory which has converted kilns from wood to gas in accordance with municipality requirements. Other traditional factories stand abandoned or are only used on a part-time basis. The process of modernisation is moving the Bahla pottery industry further away from tradition, in terms of both product range and production techniques.
