This is a restoration project based on upgrading the existing coppersmith skill base through reintroduction of traditional engraving and chasing techniques.

Oman’s once booming copper industry has declined dramatically due to influx of cheap alternatives to copper-ware, such as plastic containers and aluminium cooking pots. A small number of coppersmiths are still active in Nizwa, Bahla, Nakhl and Rustaq, but need new opportunities in order to pass skills on to younger generation

This project will focus on the establishment of training systems, the creation of systems and equipment to improve quality and efficiency, and product development.
