Pottery Projects

This preservation project is based on the perpetuation of ancient pottery traditions and the controlled development of semi-traditional pottery in the coastal villages of Taqah and Mirbat.

There are approximately 30 women potters in Taqah and Mirbat (15 in each village) who have forsaken traditional pottery-making techniques in favor of modern methods introduced through ministry training programs. As a result, the range of articles produced has delined, and Dhofari pottery is in danger of becoming highly generic.

This project focuses on reintroducing traditional designs and reinstate original natural pigments with emphasis on careful production techniques to limit breakage during firing, and on quality control to ensure the exclusiveness of each piece.
